Mobile Roadworthy Beenleigh Frequently Asked Questions

What are RWC Costs?

Roadworthy Certificates/Safety Certificates cost $120 For Most Areas and $130 For Non Metro Or Urgent Inspections.

Can I sell a car without RWC?

The simple answer is NO. When selling a vehicle or transferring a vehicle into another name, the Queensland law states that the vehicle must undergo a safety inspection and a safety certificate must be presented with the selling or transfer documents to the Department of Transport for the process to proceed accordingly.

How Far In Advance Should I Book?

We always advise calling at least 48hrs in advance however if you require a mechanic to come out and provide a road worthy certificate inspection today give us a call and we will see what we can do for you. We do our absolute best to provide all Brisbane locals with the best possible service.

What happens if you hit an unregistered car?

Hitting an unregistered car - if you hit an unregistered car you need to make every attempt to contact the owner as its the right thing to do. You should make sure no-one is injured and report the incident appropriately. You may be covered by your insurance company to cover your cars damage and the other vehicles also depending on coverage. Adversely if an unregistered car hits you make sure you have the driver admit fault and secure their details as they will not be insured.

How old can Tyres be for roadworthy in Qld?

This all boils down to safety and the tyres must pass a safety inspection. The safety inspector will determine if there is a minimum of 1.05mm of usable tread across the tyre surface, once this has been determined, the inspector will continue to complete the inspection

What if I Require Repairs?

You’ve found the right place, we also provide mechanical services. If your vehicle requires immediate and intricate attention it will need to be dropped to our shop in Woodridge. Small fixes can be done by our mobile mechanic for an extra fee.

Do you need a spare TYRE for a roadworthy?

In the past it was a definite that you needed a spare tyre for a roadworthy. But now some brand new cars do not even have a space saver rim in the boot. These new cars have a pump and a special glue that you repair your flat or damaged tyre and then continue driving. We do recommend you have a spare tyre in the vehicle for your safety.

What does a car need to pass a roadworthy?

To pass a roadworthy you should check these items:

*Lights - headlights, indicators, brake lights and number plate lights are working, no white light emits from rear of vehicle and the headlights aren't a discoloured yellowish colour.
*Windows - no chips in windscreen, tinting is free of damage and bubbles, washers jets work and wiper rubbers aren't faulty or streaky.
*Oil leaks - no oil leaks and especially no drips onto the road or exhaust.
*Battery - is secured, terminals are tight and no leaks.
*Steering - any rubber component is in good order, no excessive freeplay, no leaks, is secure and the car drives straight. Steering wheel padding is free of damage and does not roll when rocking hand backwards and forwards.
*Suspension - rubber components are in good order, shocks are firm and no leaks. Sway bar links and bushes are in good order, no sagging or damage.
*Brakes - minimum 1.5mm of brake pad material, rotors are within specification, the car passes a brake meter test..

What Does A Safety Certificate Cover?

The roadworthy certificate issued by Dr. Roadworthy covers basic physical aspects and their conditions. Some common basics covered by our certificate are seats, steering, electrical components, wheels and tires, engines, lights, brakes and its components.

Dr. Roadworthy’s safety certificates cover the basics and offer better buyer protection ensuring vehicles are safe for operation. This ensures that tyres, suspensions, lights and other aspects of the vehicle are in top condition and meet the Queensland Government code of practice. We provide RWC for most types of vehicle.

Can I drive an unregistered car to get a roadworthy?

No, unregistered cars cannot be driven unless you have an unregistered vehicle permit from Qld Transport. Make sure you take all expired number pates off the car or you could be dealt a hefty fine from the Police.

How do police know if your car is unregistered?

Great question, the Police can detect if your car is unregistered in several ways. The specialised Highway Patrol cars are fitted with number plate recognition cameras and instantly know if you are unregistered. They also can match if the type of car and colour of car or trailer is correct. General Patrol Cars may decide to check your rego status manually on their iPads or by radioing the despatch centre. Gone are the days of rego stickers and just remember these stickers are now an offence if you have not removed these from the vehicle, it's more than $500 so don't forget old rego stickers can be costly. We would inform you at time of inspection if you have a rego sticker on the vehicle.

What is checked for a roadworthy?

*Tyres have more than 1.5mm of tread across the tyre, tyre pressures are correct, no signs of cracking or damage to the tyre, wheel nuts are present, wheel and tyres are correct type and specification especially if wheels are not genuine factory fitment..
